Ruth is a retired school teacher, having taught many years for the Department of Defense in Europe. She was an art major at Hunter College, New York City, and has painted many years now, mostly as a hobby.  While living in England, she changed from mostly oil painting to watercolor, and took many courses in Cambridge, in Cornwall, Isle of Mull, Provence, and the Dordogne. Since retirement she has taken courses with many American watercolor painters in Florida, Hudson Valley, and Myrtle Beach. She has won  prizes for her paintings through the years.

Ruth has many interests: the theater (belongs to Winding River Players), opera, reading, and gardening are some of them.  She is a member of the Fine Arts Council of Troy, and of the Elmira Art Club.
